I am Stephanie Smith, a middle school math teacher here at James J Garfield school 31.

How long have you been teaching?

I have been teaching for over 20 years. It'll be 23 years in November.

23 years?

Yes.

What's the biggest change you've seen in 23 years? What do you notice that's different from the time you started to now? You look way too young to be a teach 20 years.

Really?

Yeah. Seriously!

Thank you. Let me see. The dynamic of kids that we teach now.
Technology. Oh my goodness. I was so used to the paper pencil route, and I love the paper pencil route, but now we're so much into technologies now.
I love teaching though.

Why do you love teaching?

It's community here? It's love here. We're together. It's a staff that is just dynamic. I just love IPS.
